As we approach the 2018 Mid-Term Election, we take a look back at Hillary Clinton's 2016 all-star campaign event at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. On November 7, 2016, Hillary Clinton hosted a free Election Eve concert featuring Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi who performed with Independence Hall as a backdrop. It was a star-studded rally featuring Hillary Clinton, President Barrack Obama, Michelle Obama, President Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton, as well as 30,000 fans who came to rock the vote at America's Birthplace - Independence National Historical Park.
It was billed as the “Final Stronger Together Rally” for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and it turned out to be the largest rally for the Democratic presidential nominee’s historic campaign.
The crowds were overwhelming in size, stretching from the grounds near Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center to the Independence Visitor Center. Even though the gates opened at 4PM, it was until after 8PM that everyone in the crowd who had stood in the mile-plus-long line that had stretched to Washington Avenue in South Philly was finally cleared through the tight security screening process. The security zone established by the Secret Service forced The Constitutional Walking Tour to detour its signature tours of America's Birthplace whereby it had to go behind Independence Hall on November 6-7, 2016.
In addition to his rock the vote speech, Bruce Springsteen played three songs at the rally: “Thunder Road” (from Born to Run), “Long Walk Home” (from Magic), and “Dancing in the Dark” (from Born in the U.S.A.).
Jon Bon Jovi sang acoustic versions of “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” (from Have a Nice Day), “Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night” (from Cross Road), “Livin’ on a Prayer” (from Slippery When Wet) and a cover of The Beatles’ classic, “Here Comes the Sun.”
On November 8, 2016, even though Hillary Clinton won the Presidential election in Philadelphia County by receiving 584,025 votes compared with Donald Trump’s 108,748 votes, Clinton narrowly lost the overall vote in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Trump who garnered 2,970,733 votes against Clinton’s 2,926,441 votes. In earning Pennsylvania's 20 Electoral College Votes, Donald Trump went on to win the election, and he become the 45th President of the United States.
