You cannot miss the new Comcast Technology Center (CTC) as the newest addition to Philadelphia's ever-evolving skyline. Even though the building is still in the process of being fully completed, the CTC features a distinctive tower at the top that lights up at night and serves as beacon from miles away. The CTC is also now the tallest building in Philadelphia. In fact, it’s the tallest building in the United States outside of New York and Chicago. At 1,121 feet and 60 stories tall, it’s clear that Comcast is proud to call Philadelphia home.
Building Uses
The interior is still under construction, but more than 1,000 Comcast employees have already started working in this cool CTC. Once completed, more than 4,000 Comcast employees will occupy the CTC. The CTC also houses NBC10, which is owned and operated by Comcast.
Additionally, Vernick Fish will be opening a restaurant on the main floor; the new Four Seasons hotel will occupy the top floors, making it the tallest hotel in the country; joining the Four Seasons will also be a restaurant headed up by celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. According to Mr. Vongerichten, “Philadelphia has become a major food destination with so many award-winning offerings. I am honored to be part of this culinary community.”
Insider Information
Visitors are welcome in the CTC’s lobby, where there are a number of interesting things to see. Between the escalators is a giant exploded paradigm sculpture made by British artist Conrad Shawcross. Above it, words move across the ceiling; currently they are quotes written by local elementary school students about what they want to create in the future.
Down the escalator, visitors will find underground access to its sister tower, the Comcast Center, where one can find the Comcast Experience Video Wall, a full food court and other amenities. Visitors can also head up the escalator to enjoy the Vernick Coffee Bar.
We recently went on a behind the scenes tour of the CTC, and currently, behind a closed-off area, is a large sphere, which is a nod to Comcast’s acquisition of entertainment giant NBC Universal. The purpose of the sphere is still under wraps, but within a few months, we expect to find out exactly what Comcast's grand artistic vision will be.
The working space inside the CTC (not open to the public) is also very cool.
How to Get There
The Comcast Techhnology Center is located at 1800 Arch Street. For guests of The Constitutional Walking Tour, it’s about a 1 mile walk from the National Constitution Center.
